Pairing fleet carriers with amphibious flight decks

A mixed force of strike carriers and large amphibious ships can preserve more usable F-35B decks while separating strike and landing-force tasks.

Notes

A force built around two Queen Elizabeth-class carriers and two Trieste-style amphibious ships would have four flight decks able to operate F-35Bs. The fleet carriers would focus on strike, while the amphibious ships supported landing forces. Normal maintenance cycles should leave roughly two decks available. A third large amphibious ship would make it easier to guarantee one deck for amphibious operations and another for strike aviation at the same time.
