A carrier built for fleet air defence

The lifts, hangar arrangement, and aircraft mix show an early Royal Navy concern with sustaining fleet air defence as well as strike sorties.

Notes

The layout emphasized how quickly fighters could be brought forward and launched. It also supported reconnaissance and strike work while maintaining a protective fighter presence over the fleet. The forward lift and launch arrangement let fighters move directly from the hangar toward the accelerators. This reflects a Royal Navy concept combining combat air patrol, reconnaissance, and an on-call striking force rather than treating the carrier as a single-mission weapon.
