Candytuft becomes USS Tenacity

Reverse Lend-Lease moved an experienced Royal Navy convoy escort into American service as USS Tenacity, operating from Trinidad.

Notes

HMS Candytuft escorted 500 ships through thirteen North Atlantic and two Gibraltar convoys before transferring to the United States Navy. In March 1942, reverse Lend-Lease made her USS Tenacity, one of the American Temptress-class gunboats. She subsequently served with the Fourth Fleet from Trinidad. A later modified Flower also intended to bear the Candytuft name instead entered Canadian service as HMCS Long Branch. The repeated renaming reflects the movement of these escorts between Allied services as requirements changed.
