When Canada needs large naval ships

Canadian battleships, carriers and amphibious ships are evaluated by mission demand rather than by a general ambition to possess capital ships.

Question

Where would battleships or carriers fit in the Royal Canadian Navy?

Short answer

Only a stronger opposing capital-ship threat would justify them, while aviation-capable LHDs offer more practical Arctic and expeditionary utility.

Notes

A Canadian battleship makes sense only in a world where numerous hostile battleships create a matching requirement. The same logic applies to aircraft carriers: Canada would need them if allied navies could no longer cover expanding Russian or Chinese carrier commitments. A ski-jump-equipped landing helicopter dock is a more immediately useful middle course because it could support aviation and Arctic presence. The two French-built ships later sold to Egypt would have offered Canada valuable reach in northern waters.
