Why Burke-class combat power does not automatically produce diplomatic utility

The discussion distinguishes warfighting capability from the spaces and human interactions that make a ship effective for port visits and reassurance.

Notes

Warships must do more than fight: they also demonstrate attention, reassure partners, and build relationships through naval diplomacy. Arleigh Burke-class destroyers are highly capable, but their usable reception and hosting spaces are limited for ships of their size and value. A port visit and an onboard gathering can make a nonthreatening public gesture while quietly displaying serious national power. Diplomatic utility is therefore a real design and force-structure consideration rather than a decorative extra.
