A fighter pilot commands Avalon by relying on shipboard specialists

Avalon's acting captain takes over after the previous captain dies in battle. His fighter-pilot background gives him experience of carrier operations, but many of the ship's systems are outside his professional experience. He leads the ship by relying on specialists who understand those systems. More advanced technology supplies additional information while changing the work and maintenance responsibilities of the people aboard. The fictional battle allows these command decisions to be considered without attaching them to national loyalties or reputations.
