Mortar carriers: ammunition space, support costs and vehicle weight

The Boxer and Patria mortar-carrier comparison considers ammunition capacity, existing support arrangements and the weights of the relevant variants.

Notes

The larger Boxer is credited with carrying more 120 mm mortar ammunition, although Patria is described as faster and more manoeuvrable. Existing recovery vehicles, training and support arrangements strengthen the case for continuing with Boxer. The weight comparison uses the relevant mortar configurations: a 24-ton Patria and a 30-ton Boxer NEMO installation. Patria's lightest configuration is given as 16 tons, but that is a different vehicle fit. Comparing the mortar variants therefore produces a six-ton difference.
