Question

Is an American LHA the equivalent of a Space Marine battle barge?

Short answer

The fictional battle barge has far greater protection, firepower and aviation capacity, along with orbital bombardment capability that an LHA lacks.

Notes

Carrying assault forces gives an LHA a superficial resemblance to a Space Marine battle barge, but the fictional vessel has very different protection, firepower and aviation capacity. An LHA also lacks orbital bombardment capability. Railgun-refitted Ford-class carriers and large troop transports are jokingly offered as ingredients for a closer comparison. That suggestion remains a fictional comparison rather than a developed real design proposal.
