What does the Canadian Vigilance 105 concept amount to?

Despite the OPV label, its VLS, missiles, sonar, and ice-strengthening make it a frigate-like lower tier beneath Canada's major escorts.

The proposed design has a base 16-cell Mark 41 installation expandable to 32, a 57 mm gun, 30 mm weapons, Naval Strike Missiles, hull sonar, and PC6 ice capability. That fit would make it closer to a corvette or frigate below Canada's Type 26-derived destroyers than to a simple offshore patrol vessel. Its intended role and fitted capability are more informative than the patrol-vessel label.
