Would three Tiger-class cruisers suffer the limited use common to the last generation of gun cruisers?
Short answerThe risk remains, but a three-ship class is more worth modernizing and could plausibly receive Sea Dart.
NotesA class of three ships gives the Royal Navy more reason to fund a common modernization. Late gun cruisers still face the general problem of limited employment. With fewer alternative cruisers, however, the service would work harder to retain and update them. A Sea Dart refit becomes a plausible way to give the class a continuing air-defence role.
