Specialized hulls with common naval systems

Different anti-air and anti-submarine hulls can share engines and systems wherever specialization allows.

Notes

Air-defence ships need substantial electrical power, size, and enough speed to reposition. ASW frigates place a greater premium on quiet machinery and careful acoustic treatment. In the Type 26 example, reducing the frigate's own noise improves its sonar's ability to detect a submarine, since the towing ship is much closer to the towed array than the target is. The proposed fleet has separate maritime-security, ASW, and air-defence designs. Common engines and other systems can support larger production runs even when the hulls differ.
