Impero loses parts and dock time before completion

Impero illustrates how cannibalisation and scarce docking space can leave an unfinished battleship progressively harder to complete.

Notes

Impero lost components to keep her damaged sister ships in service. The example names a rudder transferred to Littorio and auxiliary machinery sent to Vittorio Veneto. Moving the unfinished battleship away from Genoa reduced exposure after war with France, but returning her later would have been dangerous. A long period without docking left the hull needing cleaning, while inadequate space at Trieste delayed fitting out. Cannibalisation, relocation and dock shortages combined to obstruct completion.
