Why allied frigates cannot replace national fleet numbers

Selling or allocating Type 26 hulls to Norway does not make them dependable substitutes for British escorts because Norway retains its own sovereign missions.

Notes

A proposed fleet increase remains uncertain until ships are ordered and under construction. Ships allocated to an ally also cannot be counted automatically as substitutes for national escorts. Norway must consider its own assignments, including protection of oil rigs and trade, when deciding whether to join a British carrier group in the High North. Any shared operation therefore depends on Norwegian priorities at the time.
