European procurement cooperation helps explain Britain's continued use of Sylver after leaving the Horizon frigate program. Type 45 and the Horizon ships retained A50 launchers and other common systems. Individually small design differences nevertheless added up to different capabilities in the British, French, and Italian versions. The attempt to establish a European standard is described as producing three different types of destroyer.
