Provisional launcher figures in the Defiant concept discussion

Preliminary artwork prompts competing readings of missile capacity and leaves the large-launcher type unresolved.

Question

Why does the proposed Defiant-class ship look underarmed for its size?

Short answer

The figures are treated as preliminary; larger groups, sensor capacity and launcher compatibility remain under debate.

Notes

The proposed Defiant's December 2025 concept artwork supplies preliminary figures. Cyclic reads three 48-cell Mark 41 groups and twelve prompt-strike cells, then criticises both the magazine and sensors against his cruiser expectations. Clarke reports hearing that the groups might grow to sixty-four cells apiece, giving 192 standard cells. A further disagreement concerns whether the large launchers would be the same type associated with Zumwalt and could carry multiple Tomahawks. The participants do not resolve that compatibility question. Reuse of Burke systems is discussed as a possible cost and technical-risk choice, with no final design outcome established.
