Replacing the Clemson swarm and raising battleship speed

Improved destroyers, protected cruisers and faster American battleships accompany British G3 and K3 proposals.

Notes

A further American proposal replaces continued reliance on the Clemson swarm with a 1,850-ton destroyer carrying five single 5-inch guns and three triple torpedo mountings on the centreline. Cruisers would receive proper armour and batteries arranged in twin turrets, with triples considered only if practical. Battleships would aim for about 25-26 knots because standard battle-line speeds were becoming too restrictive. For Britain, the same proposal accelerates newer destroyer designs and considers quadruple torpedo mountings. It also completes the G3s, enlarges dockyards, and considers the 18-inch-armed K3 as a fast capital ship. Later battleships would return to two turrets forward and one aft, potentially using triple mountings. More carrier hulls would accompany the surface-ship program.
