American scouts for a faster Grand Fleet division

Tennessee and Chester class cruisers create different scouting options, including a proposed force built around Queen Elizabeth class battleships.

Notes

Four Tennessee class armoured cruisers could strengthen the Grand Fleet's scouting forces in the Roosevelt counterfactual. Their proposed role follows the distinction between armoured cruisers under Jellicoe's direct control and the more separate Battle Cruiser Fleet. The Chester class scout cruisers offer greater speed, but their roughly 24 knots would still limit their ability to accompany the fastest battlecruisers. An alternative pairs them with Queen Elizabeth class battleships, whose speed fits them more closely. Their comparatively short range matters less in the North Sea, and better Welsh coal is suggested as a possible small performance improvement.
