Chapter · 2:02-3:14

Exeter and Ajax reach the killing swing

By about 6:50, Exeter and Ajax have reached the desired attack position around Graf Spee, though Exeter has already taken heavy damage as the German ship's main target.

Notes

HMS Exeter and HMS Ajax have reached their intended attack position by about 6:50. Admiral Graf Spee has already turned away, with the British cruisers nearly straddling it in the maneuver described as the "killing swing." Exeter has paid heavily for the approach because the German ship concentrated on it as the principal target. The rough battle map shows their relative positions without giving an exact reconstruction of every course.
