A Pacific-first war redirects fighters and radar to the fleet

With the Royal Navy leading the war, carrier fighters and tactical shipboard radar would compete successfully for national resources.

Notes

The Royal Navy already had a fighter-based concept for defending the fleet and early radar experience in 1939. A war against Japan would give the Fleet Air Arm priority instead of subordinating naval aircraft production to the Battle of Britain. The navalized Spitfire or Seafire program would probably accelerate, although its exact engine and development path remain open. Radar resources would likewise shift from an overwhelmingly strategic Chain Home emphasis toward tactical warning and control at sea. The first operational problems would shape both the equipment delivered and the course of British electronics and aviation development.
