Britain shared carrier data to shape allied innovation

British carrier information strengthened American and Japanese partners while also making their development more legible and less likely to produce an unexpected Dreadnought-style leap.

Notes

Britain had strategic reasons for sharing carrier experiments with the United States and Japan. The information supported allied naval aviation and strengthened relationships with both powers. It also encouraged their designers to develop along pathways the Royal Navy understood. That reduced the chance of another navy suddenly producing a radically different standard in a new Dreadnought moment. Knowledge sharing served alliance management, technical coordination, and strategic intelligence at the same time.
