A British answer to the Tillman battleships

Rather than mirror the immense Tillman designs, Britain could answer with faster G3- and N3-derived ships operating in hunting groups.

Question

Was there a British equivalent to the American Tillman design studies?

Short answer

Britain considered very large post-G3 and N3 ideas, but its more practical answer would be fast capital ships used in groups against slower Tillmans.

Notes

A super-heavy American battleship would force a choice between size and speed. Britain could exploit that tradeoff by fielding faster capital ships that the Tillmans could not catch, then concentrate several ships against one target. This approach would make the United States disperse its immense ships while British groups hunted them. Operational mobility and numbers matter more here than defeating the American design in a single-ship comparison.
