Chapter · 40:49-45:13

Two Bramble-class generations outlast their original era

The 1886 and 1898 Bramble classes survived because harbor work, training, colonial policing, and shallow-water service still required gunboats.

Notes

The Royal Navy reused the Bramble name because two generations of small gunboats proved durable in dispersed imperial service. Among the 1886 ships, Rattler moved from harbor service to navigation training and remained until the 1920s. Lizard served during the Boxer Rebellion, while the original Bramble was renamed Cockatrice before disposal. Their afterlives introduce the video's central point: an old design can remain valuable when the navy still needs the specialized work it performs.
