The 1962 Brunei Rebellion began the operational work that shaped 845's modern identity. The squadron inserted, recovered, and sustained troops across jungle terrain during the rebellion and the Indonesia-Malaysia Confrontation. The confrontation is explained as Indonesian opposition to the formation of Malaysia, ending with Sukarno's removal in 1966. Flying Wessex helicopters from HMS Albion and HMS Bulwark, 845 supported Royal Marine commandos, artillery, infantry, Gurkhas, and the Special Air Service. Repeated lift and support missions earned the Junglies reputation, while the 1964 Boyd Trophy recognised the squadron's aviation work in Malaysia.
