The Blackburn Skua over Norway

The campaign's early air fighting included a Fleet Air Arm Skua shooting down an enemy aircraft.

Notes

Accounts that put Spitfires in the Norway Campaign are rejected because none operated there. The Blackburn Skua is instead credited with the first enemy aircraft shot down by the Royal Navy during the Second World War, and possibly the first British shoot-down over Norway. HMS Warspite's Fairey Swordfish spotters and other spotting aircraft also attacked German planes. This correction places ship-based naval aviation inside a campaign often remembered mainly for landings, evacuation, and surface forces.
