Black Swan and Stonecrop destroy U-124

A Flower-class corvette and an anti-submarine sloop ended U-124's eleventh patrol off Portugal.

Notes

U-124 was a Type IXB submarine commissioned in June 1940. On 2 April 1943, during her eleventh patrol, HMS Stonecrop and HMS Black Swan sank her west of Portugal with all 53 aboard. Stonecrop was a Flower-class corvette, while the Black Swan class is judged the nearest wartime equivalent to a purpose-built anti-submarine specialist among full warship designs. U-124's earlier operations included an attack on HMS Malaya in March 1941 and the sinking of Dunedin on her seventh patrol.
