The Corfu expedition drew on capable Russian and Ottoman forces, but both governments kept comparable fleets at home as a precaution against their ally.

Notes

Russia and the Ottoman Empire limited the naval forces they committed to the Mediterranean expedition. Together they supplied twelve ships of the line and eleven frigates, while each retained a comparable force in the Black Sea. Those retained fleets continued to watch one another despite the alliance. The expedition nevertheless received proficient squadrons and capable admirals, while British officers tried to prevent mutual suspicion from disrupting cooperation.
