Bismarck is recognised as a capable 15-inch-gun battleship, while her size and complexity are criticised. Her many requirements are attributed to a design process in which numerous participants wanted their preferences included. Standardising a less elaborate capital ship is proposed as a way to obtain more hulls. Even with six 15-inch guns or nine 11-inch guns, each is judged a threat that Britain would need a fast battleship to defeat reliably. Seven or eight such ships with several carriers would create a much larger interception problem. This is an assessment of the proposed force, rather than a calculated production forecast or a guarantee of combat outcomes.

Bismarck's complexity and the case for more hulls
Simpler capital-ship requirements are proposed as a way to create more threats for Britain's fast battleships to cover.
