Bearn's usefulness did not end when her limitations as a fleet carrier became obvious. She later served as flagship of a French anti-submarine group and took part in postwar operations connected with French Indochina. The ship survived into the 1960s as a barracks vessel. Her longevity reflected adaptation to secondary duties and relatively light wartime use rather than proof that the original carrier design had succeeded.
