Do Battlestars qualify as battlecarriers?

Do Battlestars such as Galactica count as battlecarriers?

Opinions differ: one view accepts the battlecarrier label, while the stricter view calls Galactica a heavily armed carrier because she lacks a distinct main gun battery.

There is disagreement over whether Battlestars qualify as battlecarriers. One view accepts the label, while the other focuses on Galactica's lack of a distinct main gun battery. She has guns and can launch nuclear missiles, but the stricter classification calls her a heavily armed carrier. Lexington-class aircraft carriers before the removal of their 8-inch guns provide the real naval comparison. The disagreement concerns the significance of the ship's primary armament.
