How battleship layout links firing arcs to hull balance

Moving turrets, funnels, and machinery improves pitch and weight distribution only if the main battery retains useful forward firing arcs.

Notes

The final design stage treats arrangement as a problem of combat effectiveness rather than appearance. Splitting turrets around the funnel, shifting structures, and changing boiler and funnel choices can reduce pitch and weight offset. An apparently easy move is rejected because it would cost the main battery its ability to fire forward, so stability improvements must preserve weapon arcs. Roll is already acceptable, leaving pitch and the last available displacement as the main concerns. Turret geometry, exhaust arrangements, machinery, and weight distribution have to be solved together.
