Why battleships could not sensibly bombard Tirpitz

Fjord terrain, extreme indirect angles, and the exposure of the attacking ship made surface bombardment a poor way to attack Tirpitz.

Question

Were Allied battleships ever intended to bombard Tirpitz while she lay in a Norwegian fjord?

Short answer

No; the terrain and firing geometry made the attack impractical and exposed the attacking battleship to unacceptable danger.

Notes

The answer rejects a battleship attack into Tirpitz's anchorage as tactically unsound. High surrounding ground and long, awkward gun trajectories would make observation and fire control exceptionally difficult. An attacking capital ship would have to enter constricted waters while trying to shoot over terrain. That combination offered little prospect of useful fire and a serious chance of losing another battleship.
