Battlecruisers inherit the armoured-cruiser role

Battlecruisers eventually absorbed much of the armoured cruiser's work, but the two types briefly coexisted as distinct design answers.

Notes

Battlecruisers inherited much of the armoured cruiser's fleet role, which helps explain the interwar gap between ordinary cruisers and capital ships. They can be described as the armoured cruisers of their own period, though the types were still distinct. Minotaur-class armoured cruisers were still being ordered as battlecruisers emerged. That overlap shows an older cruiser concept coexisting with its more powerful successor during the transition.
