The campaign fight shows why this battlecruiser force has been built around speed and a powerful secondary battery. Incomparable combines 13.5-inch guns, numerous 6-inch guns, armour, and a substantial speed margin over the fleeing ship. That margin lets the British ships close while remaining outside the target's shorter-ranged guns, then bring several groups onto converging bearings. The chase and eventual crossfire fit the battlecruiser's intended pursuit role in the historical literature more closely than an equal gun duel would.
