The comparison does not dismiss the Battle class, which remained an effective warship. Its wartime weapons arrangement made it a formidable combatant, but the design was less suited to the measured appearance and hospitality expected of peacetime presence. Later radar-picket service and other contemplated adaptations show that Battle-class hulls retained postwar utility. The surviving Tribals had demonstrated cruiser-like diplomacy, yet hard wartime service led Britain to dispose of them soon after 1945. Daring combined a strong six-gun battery with the size, looks, and usable accommodation needed to signal status without paying for a proper cruiser.
