The Swedes fell back from Sävar to Ratan and prepared for another battle near their ships. Kamensky attacked to delay them while arranging his own retreat before the other Swedish force arrived. Swedish field artillery was available at Ratan, together with the navy's guns, after its absence from the preceding battle.
