The landing near Åbo/Turku was intended to use naval mobility to recover ground in southwest Finland. Swedish troops initially advanced, then fell back under Russian counterattacks. An attack on an exposed Russian flank briefly regained ground, but further reinforcements and a bayonet assault again forced the Swedes back. Russian artillery set fire to the manor house in their position. The gunboats covered the evacuation before Russian guns reached the shore and the force withdrew to Åland. Sweden committed about 2,400 troops and six guns against roughly 3,600 Russians and eight guns.
