A Japanese battleship in the simulation has received more armour than its source design, yet its severe list creates a different kind of vulnerability. The heel makes it harder to elevate and aim the main guns effectively. It also tilts the deck toward opposing battleships, allowing incoming fire to meet that protection at a much less favourable angle. The ship's nominal armour thickness therefore no longer describes its practical resistance under battle damage. Flooding and loss of stability can weaken firepower and increase exposure even before a ship sinks.

How a severe list compounds battle damage
A damaged battleship's heavy list impairs its own gunlaying while presenting deck protection to enemy fire at a more dangerous angle.
