Warrior route clearance and extraction during Operation Pimlico

A Warrior platoon checks a route for roadside bombs before collecting troops under fire during an arrest operation in Al-Amarah.

Notes

The Royal Welch Fusiliers were to detain around a dozen suspected organizers of unrest in a housing district on the southern edge of Al-Amarah. Johnson Beharry's Warrior platoon cleared their route at little more than walking pace, stopping about every 50 metres while drivers used eight-power sights to look for roadside bombs. Once the route was clear, the Warriors waited in an unfinished prison as the arrest teams entered on foot. Mr Dean in Beharry's account claimed that local police could not be trusted because some were involved in attacks on British troops. When firing began, the Warrior crews collected dismounted soldiers under fire, carrying as many as would fit while other vehicles took the remainder. The platoon also had to prepare for a later resupply operation, with Warriors held in reserve to support the delivery of food, water, ammunition, and personnel.
