Avalon and the battleship evade onto the same vector, leaving the carrier only seconds to prevent a collision. The crew overrides missile safety distances, fires through the enemy hull, and steers through the center of the resulting explosion because every other path is worse. The blast buckles armour, strips exposed fittings, overloads power cells, blinds sensors, and starts fires throughout the weapon bays. Engineering restores power while damage-control teams evacuate and vent the burning spaces, and the fighters maintain control outside until the flight deck can reopen. The entire action lasts roughly ten minutes.
