Mediterranean armoured cruisers appeared in many of the First World War's major operations in the theatre. These included the pursuit of Goeben and Breslau, the blockade of Austria-Hungary, the Serbian Army's evacuation, Gallipoli, Salonika, Antivari, Durazzo, and the Otranto Barrage. The ships served across the theatre in several missions. Their presence in major operations, however, did not demonstrate that the armoured-cruiser concept was strategically sound.
