Armour and subdivision as modern warship resilience

A proposal for limited armour and stronger subdivision aims to confine damage when modern defences fail.

Notes

Active and passive defences cannot guarantee that a ship will avoid being hit. The proposed layout places an armoured deck just above the waterline to limit how damage spreads vertically through the hull. Selected armoured transverse bulkheads, backed by many ordinary subdivisions, would divide the ship into larger protected zones. At least one armoured longitudinal bulkhead could further stop a hit on one side from affecting the entire width of the vessel. The aim is to contain damage when interception fails.
