Armour protection has a direct displacement price

A close look at belts, decks, bulkheads, barbettes, and the conning tower shows how small protection changes consume a battlecruiser's weight margin.

Notes

The proposed ship carries reinforced bulkheads, anti-flooding measures, extra ammunition and torpedoes, and heavier protection than the historical comparison. The design screen shows how belt and deck reductions free weight while the large machinery spaces and vital positions still require protection. Within the simulation, raising the conning tower from two to ten inches adds about 180 tons, although the commentary warns that this game effect does not reflect the real impact accurately. Barbette thickness, torpedo reserves, and even a few light guns then compete for the remaining margin. Every requirement draws on the same displacement budget.
