Armament and fire-control choices behind the concept

The hypothetical ship combines three triple 14-inch turrets with period-appropriate fire control, secondary guns, torpedo tubes, and modest armour changes.

Notes

The proposed fit uses command, control, radio, and sighting technology available to the period, without later systems such as radar. Its main battery substitutes nine modeled 14-inch guns for Orion's ten 13.5-inch guns, while six triple four-inch mounts provide eighteen secondary guns instead of sixteen singles. The comparison also covers three two-inch weapons and two 18-inch torpedo tubes against Orion's three 21-inch tubes. The conning tower is deliberately left lightly armoured, with the caveat that a period-accurate ship would probably have received more protection.
