When a larger DDG(X) becomes a new Burke flight

A proposed 15,000-ton 'Flight IV' illustrates how a familiar class label could make a much larger future destroyer institutionally and politically legible.

Notes

An outside proposal stretches the Burke flight system by scaling the roughly 9,900-ton ship to about 15,000 tons and calling the result Flight IV rather than DDG(X). That would be roughly fifty percent more ship under a familiar program label. The proposal is not a design adopted by the US Navy. It illustrates how continuity of naming could make a physically much larger successor easier for institutions and Congress to recognize.
