Ark Royal remained Lord Howard's flagship during the 1596 Cádiz expedition and served as a flagship again in 1599. After James VI of Scotland became James I of England, the ship was renamed Anne Royal for Anne of Denmark. A later rebuild at Woolwich converted her into a 42-gun ship with a heavier battery. She served until 1636, when an improperly handled anchor sank her.
