The reconstruction begins by testing alternatives against what British industry had actually produced by World War I. Triple 15-inch turrets and a 15-inch/50 gun do not appear in the relevant period, while small-tube boilers, triple 4-inch anti-destroyer mounts, and 18-inch guns do. Furious's 18-inch weapons were shortened, leaving open the possibility that the earlier programme contemplated longer 18-inch/42 or /45 guns. Those components fit a ship expected from a Royal Navy dockyard around late 1914 or early 1915. The result is a circumstantial design hypothesis without a surviving approved plan.
