From Argentine authorization to British completion

Argentina's 1934 authorization led to a Vickers-Armstrong contract and a cruiser completed amid Britain's own rearmament pressure.

Notes

Argentina authorized the ship in 1934 and tendered the contract the following year, placing the project alongside contemporary British light-cruiser work. Vickers-Armstrong won the six-million-peso order and built her at Barrow-in-Furness. Laid down in 1936 and launched in March 1937, she was completed at the end of January 1939 after Britain's rearmament programme delayed the work. The chronology shows how Argentine procurement depended on foreign shipbuilding capacity and the builder nation's naval priorities.
