Why an April victory creates a Russian dilemma

An April breakthrough arrives after Ottoman reinforcement and could redirect successful Russian Caucasus armies deeper into Anatolia.

Notes

By late April the Allies finally combine ships and troops, but they have already advertised their target twice and allowed the Ottomans to reinforce. If victory still occurs, successful Russian commanders in the Caucasus may press through Anatolia toward Constantinople rather than turn against Austria-Hungary. Allied forces would then need to balance Russian ambitions and sustain a second major theater. A late success could therefore improve Russia's supply position while simultaneously creating a costly competition over where Russian and Allied armies should concentrate.
