Aircraft made gun elevation and data transfer urgent problems

Engaging aircraft added rapid elevation changes and high target speed to the ranging problem, demanding faster connections between control systems and gun mechanisms.

Notes

Surface targets already required an answer to movement and range, but aircraft added high speed, altitude, and rapid changes in elevation. A calculated lead was not enough on its own because orders and data still had to reach the gun mounting. That mounting then needed enough training and elevation speed to follow the solution accurately. The result was an anti-aircraft fire-control chain in which sensing, computation, communication, and responsive machinery all had to work together.
