The Andrea Doria class belongs among personal favourites for character rather than as a technical category winner. The Italian battleships are attractive and highly capable. Their limitation in this ranking is relative: another contemporary design offers a slightly stronger overall package at each point. An effective and attractive warship can remain a favourite without being the best ship of its generation.

The Andrea Doria class combines attractive Italian lines and credible capability, but stronger contemporaries keep it from leading its field.
